HOPE AND HEALING FOR THE MENTALLY ILL

In Sidetracked by Schizophrenia, Charlotte documents her son’s encounters with the many medications and difficult life situations that come as part of living with this disease. It covers the trials and errors, the failures, the partial successes, the side effects, the exciting movement toward more and more effective treatments, and the hope for living a normal life medication free. The book speaks to family members who are, or have been there and to professionals who are called on to make judgments about what regimen may be most effective for their patients. It encourages the reader to keep an open mind about the body’s capacity to heal itself when given the right balance.

Daniel’s experiences have become an example of so many people with schizophrenia seeking relief from this devastating disease. This book will encourage frustrated and despairing families to never give up. It is a saga that illuminates the belief that there are sound scientific reasons for hope in the treatment of schizophrenia as well as other mental illnesses.

PRAISE FOR “SIDETRACKED BY SCHIZOPHRENIA”

‘Sideracked by Schizophrenia’ is a moving and powerful testimony of a mother’s love for her son. You can feel the distress that she shares openly as her son struggles with a devastating illness: schizophrenia. Charlotte Leblanc reports their journey through psychiatric care, hospitalizations, pathological trips, medications and ultimately their initiative to explore nutritional supplements.

An inspiring story for people with loved ones who are diagnosed with this serious mental disorder and need to revive their candle of hope.” – Louis Thériault, MD, FRCPC

Sidetracked by Schizophrenia is a great introductory book looking at how complementary medicine can co-exist with traditional medications in helping to treat schizophrenia. Charlotte’s new book provides observation of her challenges throughout years of watching her son come to grips with his mental illness. I would encourage you to read this book if a loved one suffers from any kind of mental illness. The book provides valuable insight on schizophrenia and mental illness. – Dr. Peter R. Ford, BS Pharm, Pharm D

“A testimony of hope written with compassion and love.  A helpful read for those suffering from a mental illness and their families.”  – Eugene Niles, Mental Health Advocate

“Sidetracked by Schizophrenia” is a remarkable story of a young man’s struggles with schizophrenia and the many trials and tribulations experienced by his parents as described by his mother Charlotte LeBlanc. Daniel lived life on a roller coaster – in and out of home, in and out of the hospital, on the streets, addicted to drugs, rejected  by peers and adults alike, temporarily stable and unstable, and finally taking control of his life with a sense of purpose, a loving, supportive and firm partner, off drugs, reduced medications, living a healthy lifestyle, and always the unconditional love and support of his parents. The author demonstrates the importance of support, family and a partner, psychiatric intervention with medications, and explores alternatives to traditional approaches to treating schizophrenia including nutrition. This is a must read for an inside look at the impact of schizophrenia and one family’s journey through it all from the onset to well being.” – John Lutz, R.S.W., Social Worker
